Gothic metalcore band, Motionless In White are about to release their new record, ‘Disguise’ on June 14 2019. The follow up venture of the band after 2017’s Graveyard Shift, which in my opinion was okayish yet a decent record with few good moments.
However, the band released two new singles from their upcoming record, ‘Brand New Numb’ and ‘Disguise (title)’.
Speaking of ‘Brand New Numb’, oh my god what a piece of generic shit this is. I had some expectations with this track that this may be good or may return back to their old sound or something, but no. All we got is a god awful clusterfuck. The music seems like they’ve ripped off one of TobyMac’s track, ‘Tonight’ featuring John Cooper of Skillet. The track is also tries so hard to fit in the mainstream rock radio charts by adding more over the top popier elements with cheesy and repetitive lyrics. Either the band was lazy or they may have hired Max Martin to write this lyrics. Even the vocals sounded more monotonous and unoriginal. This tracks stands out as the most forgettable tracks of 2019.
Now speaking of Disguise, this track has all the elements that the band once used to produce. It’s such a blessing to see they’ve revisited their much older sound on this masterpiece. However, the track is a bit similar to ‘Reincarnate’ from the album of the same name. We can see that the vibe is visibly connected to it. Lyrics were well written and can be easily connected to it. Vocals on this track is terrific and a lot better effort has been put forward in the production of this hell of gem we actually wanted.
Final Verdict:
It’s pretty strange thing that most bands while releasing singles, we get one good and one bad song. However, I have a lot of expectations from their new album that it will sound great and I wish the final output should be as great as ‘Disguise’. If turned out like ‘Brand New Numb’, then the chances will be high on getting featured on my worst of 2019 list. Experimentation of genres is a really tough process. Sometimes it works while sometimes it doesn’t and may sometimes kill the vibe or mood of listening to it. I wish best of luck to the band. Please don’t let me down.
My Rating:
- Brand New Numb: 4/10
- Disguise: 8/10
